Jimmy Kimmel humiliates Matt Damon as he halts show to demand security ‘remove’ actor
Jimmy Kimmel stopped his Jimmy Kimmel Live! talk show on Monday night, September 28, to have actor Matt Damon “removed” from set.
Kimmel, 58, kicked off Monday’s show in Brooklyn, New York, for Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s weeklong residency at the Howard Gilman Opera House, located in the Brooklyn Academy of Music. During his opening monologue, Oscar-winning actor Damon, 55, appeared in the in-studio audience wearing a Red Sox baseball cap.
Tension was humorously thick between Kimmel and Damon after the ABC host brought up the upcoming baseball postseason AL Wild Card series between the Yankees and the Red Sox that’s scheduled for Tuesday, September 29. It comes after an MLB star was removed from the baseball field on a stretcher.
Before Kimmel even finished asking the question about there being any baseball fans in the audience, Damon stood up and yelled “Go Sox” repeatedly, showing his strong support for the team.
While many cheered Damon for being a Sox fan, there were some audience members who booed him. Kimmel, who pretended not to know him, said, “You, the loser in the Red Sox cap, what is your name?” to which Damon answered, “You know my name.”
Kimmel, continuing the bit of him not knowing Damon, replied, “I have no idea what your name is, and honestly I don’t care because it’s time for the ceremonial throwing out of the first Red Sox fan.”
Kimmel than instructed the security team to “remove” Damon from the theater. Damon attempted to stay, telling Kimmel that he “wasn’t event trying to get on the show” and was “just there with family,” who turned out to be Kimmel’s real life family members.
Although Kimmel continued to call for security to escort Damon out, he briefly halted after hearing “family,” immediately asking Damon “what family was he there with. “
Damon admitted he was there with Kimmel’s mom, Joan Kimmel, and Kimmel’s sister, Jill. Kimmel feigned outrage over Damon being there with his mom and sister, demanding that security got Damon out of the theater “right now.”
Kimmel exclaimed, “You don’t bring my mother and sister with you,” as Damon was being escorted out along with the talk show host’s mom and sister. Damon yelled “Let’s go Sox!” on his way out the door.
Kimmel’s skit with Damon comes on the heels of their long-running faux feud that’s become a staple bit on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, dating all the way back to the mid-2000s.
Beginning in 2005, Kimmel started episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live with the line, “Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time.” Since then, it has spawned everything ranging surprise cameos and Oscar-night insults to Sarah Silverman’s famous “I’m F–kiing Matt Damon” video.
