Jimmy Kimmel jokes Melania Trump might be AI after ‘weird’ handshake
On Monday, Jimmy Kimmel made a joke suggesting Melania Trump might actually be an artificial intelligence system.
Kimmel quipped on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live that the First Lady is a robot. He referenced a “groundbreaking paper that made modern AI possible” that appeared in the Journal of Science on the exact date Melania became a United States citizen: July 28, 2006. He also mentioned Melania’s enthusiasm for AI, which she has championed on multiple occasions.
“Is it possible that Melania is AI?” Kimmel asked. This follows Melania sparking speculation after she returned to the public eye after 31 days.
Kimmel humorously presented a “fascinating” video of Melania walking alongside a humanoid robot.
“Now, I don’t know if it’s learning to walk from her or she’s learning to walk from it, but it’s very similar – and watch her here shaking hands with these kids,” he went on as he displayed footage first of Melania greeting a child and then the identical robot performing the same gesture. “Okay, now I’ve seen this handshake before, and that’s where I’ve seen it. It’s weird.”

After mentioning that “very smart people” have warned about AI’s advancement, Kimmel observed that Melania has been a “surprising” supporter of the technology.
He presented a clip of Melania in which she stated, “Artificial intelligence gives our communities access to the largest amount of information ever recorded in humanity’s history.”
Kimmel observed that Melania has largely stayed out of the spotlight recently, though her public appearances have frequently involved promoting artificial intelligence. He then played a compilation of the First Lady advocating for AI.
“AI is democratizing knowledge,” she said in one clip.
“AI inspires. Keep using artificial intelligence as a muse,” declared Melania in another video.

“The most significant change will be speed,” she said, “Humanoid systems are uniquely suited to navigate and operate within our world.”
“The shift from soldiers to machines is already underway. It is our duty to treat AI as our own children,” she insisted. “The robots are here.”
“Can somebody blow in her mouth like a Nintendo cartridge?” asked Kimmel as the compilation concluded.
“Get the lint out,” he said as he mimicked blowing dust from a cartridge, “Just give her one of those.”
“It’s all adding up. Melania, it’s so obvious. It was right in front of us the whole time. You can’t even spell her name–” he said before being abruptly cut off by a clip of Melania.
“There is definitely more to this story and we need to uncover the truth,” stated the First Lady.
