Tonight, dramatic video captured by TMZ showing the tense moments LAPD officers arrested singer David on suspicion of murdering a teenage girl who had been found dead in the trunk of his car. In footage obtained by the California Post, officers in tactical gear are seen walking him in handcuffs yesterday on the streets of the Hollywood Hills. The arrest comes 7 months after officers made that grim discovery at an impound lot. The body of 14-year-old Celeste Davis found inside the front trunk of a Tesla registered to David Burke.

 April 25th, 2025. He had just headlined Coachella for the first time in his life. His debut album was dropping in 2 days. His world tour tickets sold out in hours. By every measure, that was the best day of his career. But on that same day, a 14-year-old girl walked through his front door in the Hollywood Hills and was never seen again.

His name is David. His breakout song, the one that made him famous, was called Romantic Homicide. Her name was Celeste Rivas Hernandez. She was 14 years old. She had been reported missing three times before she ever walked into his house. Three times, and nobody came. So, how did a girl that nobody was looking for end up 5 months later dismembered and sealed inside a Tesla at a Hollywood tow yard? And why did it take 7 months to charge the man whose car she was found in? Stay with me, because this story does

Celeste Abigail Aviles Hernandez was born on September 7th, 2010 in Lake Elsinore, California, a quiet town of 70,000 people in Western Riverside County, built around a lake where families go water skiing on weekends.

 Her parents, Jesus Rivas and Mercedes Martinez, had come from El Salvador and built a life on one of those quiet streets. Her brother, Matthew, grew up alongside her. She loved to sing and dance. Every Friday was movie night. She was a seventh grader when everything changed. She still had her braces. Her neighbor later said in Spanish, “She was a girl with a normal life.

 She had friends at school.” Her parents would eventually say she was beautiful and strong. She always told us that she loved us. That is who Celeste was. Keep that in mind for everything that comes next. David Anthony Burke, known by his stage name, was born in New York City and raised in Houston, Texas.

 In 2022, at 17 years old, he released a song called Romantic Homicide from his sister’s closet using free software. It went everywhere. TikTok, Spotify, radio, over a billion streams, a deal with Interscope Records. He opened for SZA. He performed at Milan Fashion Week. He headlined Coachella. By the spring of 2025, he was one of the most talked about young artists in the world.

 And as early as 2022, when Celeste would have been 11 or 12 years old, a user named Celeste appeared in his official Discord fan server. Other users in the server referred to her as his girlfriend. Nobody stopped it. Celeste was reported missing for the first time in mid-February 2024. She was 13. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office took the report. She was labeled a runaway.

She was reported missing a second time on March 19th, then a third time on April 5th, 2024. Her brother, Matthew, told NBC Los Angeles that when she disappeared that final time, she was on her way to see a movie with David. Her family knew she had a connection to the singer. Three reports, three times the paperwork was filed, three times a 13-year-old girl was released back into silence because she was a runaway, because she was a teenager, because she was exactly the kind of girl the system has always known how to overlook.

Around this time, a concerned person emailed an address at David’s record label. The message said there had been talk that David might know where she was and urged him to take her home. Her parents are very worried. CNN later confirmed the email’s authenticity. David never replied. In the summer of 2024, someone in David’s own fan server typed publicly for the whole community to see, “Drop the one with the missing girl, Celeste Rivas Hernandez.” He said nothing.

In June 2024, Celeste Rivas Hernandez was photographed backstage at David’s sold-out show at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles. She had been missing for two months. She was smiling. Here is what prosecutors allege happened between David and Celeste. According to the criminal complaint filed April 20th, 2026, David engaged in continuous sexual abuse of Celeste beginning September 7th, 2023.

She was 13 years old. It continued for at least a year. The people around David reportedly believed Celeste was 19. She was a seventh grader from Lake Elsinore who still had her braces. On her right index finger, Celeste had a tattoo. The word “shh” followed by three dots. David had the same tattoo on his right index finger.

 Both were documented in the autopsy report. Her mother had told investigators her daughter had a boyfriend named David. A private investigator later found a camera at David’s Hollywood Hills rental containing photographs of the two of them together from late December 2024 and early January 2025, by which point Celeste had been officially missing for nearly a year.

And in December 2023, right in the middle of the period prosecutors say the abuse was ongoing, an unreleased song reportedly titled Celeste surfaced online. He never confirmed or denied it. Prosecutors allege that at some point Celeste threatened to expose the relationship, to tell the world that David had been sexually abusing her since she was 13 years old.

 And when she made that threat, she became a danger to everything he had built. District Attorney Nathan Hochman said it plainly, “When she threatened to expose his criminal conduct and devastate his musical career, Burke allegedly murdered her, cut up her body, and stuffed her in two bags placed in the front trunk of his car.

” The murder charge carries a special circumstance of financial gain. Hawkman was direct. The financial gain was for David to maintain his very lucrative musical career that Celeste was threatening on that night. Celeste is also named in the charges as a witness because she was the witness to the very crimes committed against her.

In the prosecution’s framing, he didn’t just kill a girl, he allegedly silenced the only person who could testify to what he had done to her. What was at stake for him on April 23rd, 2025? His debut album was releasing in 2 days. His global world tour had just been announced. He had deals with Interscope Records, Sony Music Publishing, Crocs, and Hollister.

 He had just headlined Coachella for the first time 12 days earlier. Everything was in motion, and then, according to prosecutors, he invited Celeste to his house. April 23rd, 2025. Celeste Rivas Hernandez, age 14, arrived at David’s Hollywood Hills home on Marmont Avenue. At his invitation, prosecutors say. LAPD Chief Jim McDonald later confirmed she arrived.

 She was never heard from again. Prosecutors allege she was killed with a sharp instrument. The autopsy report, released April 22nd, 2026, documented two penetrating wounds, one to the chest, one to the abdomen, with smooth edges consistent with stabbing. The alleged date of mutilation of her remains, per the criminal complaint, is May 5th, 2025, 12 days later.

Two days after the day prosecutors say Celeste died, David’s debut album, Withered, was released. It debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200. A song called Crashing, a a love ballad about the one person you run to when everything falls apart, played on radio stations across the country. He went on tour.

 He performed in Minneapolis, in Chicago. He took bows. Somewhere in the Hollywood Hills, a white Tesla sat parked on Bluebird Avenue, locked, its trunk sealed with two black bags inside. On September 8th, 2025, workers at Hollywood Tow, an official city of Los Angeles police garage, noticed a smell coming from a white Tesla Model Y on their lot.

The car had Texas plates registered to David at a Texas family address. It had been parked on Bluebird Avenue in the Hollywood Hills, reported abandoned, and impounded by the city. Police opened the front trunk. They found human remains in two bags. It was one day after what would have been Celeste’s 15th birthday.

David was in Minneapolis that night, performing. On September 16th, the medical examiner identified the remains as Celeste Riveras Hernandez. Her body was released to her family on September 24th. Her funeral was held October 6th, 2025 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary in Rowland Heights, California.

 She was buried without answers, without charges, without a single public statement from the man whose car she had been found in. For 7 weeks after her body was discovered, the LAPD refused to call it a murder investigation. When they finally did, on November 24th, Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said, “Accountability is coming.

 No one is off the table, including Burke.” The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide on December 9th, 2025, and those findings were sealed by the LAPD the same day. The family’s attorney said what many were thinking, “Concealing a body is a crime regardless of the circumstances of the death.” Meanwhile, investigators were looking at something else.

 In the spring of 2025, after Celeste allegedly died, before the Tesla was towed, David made a late-night drive to a remote area of Santa Barbara County. The LAPD confirmed they were investigating that trip and believed it was connected to what happened to Celeste. They have never publicly said what he did there.

 That drive remains an open, unresolved thread in this case. And then there is Neo Langston, a 23-year-old streamer and close friend of David’s. He was subpoenaed to testify before the Los Angeles Grand Jury. He didn’t show up. In January 2026, police arrested him at his mother’s home in Helena, Montana, extradited him to Los Angeles, and released him on $60,000 bail.

 On February 4th, 2026, he testified before the Grand Jury for 40 minutes, answered every question, and did not invoke the Fifth Amendment. Investigators later confirmed he was not connected to Celeste’s death. Afterward, Langston posted on Instagram, publicly breaking with David. He wrote, “At the end of the day, this case isn’t about me.

 It’s about getting justice for the victim and her family.” He couldn’t bring himself to say her name. In February 2026, sealed court documents became public after David’s parents tried to block grand jury subpoenas in a Texas court. The documents confirmed David was the official target of the investigation. The Texas judge denied their petition.

On April 16th, 2026, the LAPD arrested David at his Hollywood Hills residence on April 20th. District Attorney Nathan Hochman formally charged him with three counts, first-degree murder with special circumstances, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains.

 Prosecutors said they had 40 terabytes of evidence. At arraignment that afternoon, David pleaded not guilty. His lead attorney, Blair Berk, said in court, “The actual evidence will show that David Berk did not murder Celeste Riveras Hernandez, and he was not the cause of her death.” Celeste’s parents, Jesus Riveras and Mercedes Martinez, were in that courtroom.

 They walked in and looked at the floor. They did not speak to reporters. Two days after his arrest, during the second weekend of Coachella in Indio, California, the words Celeste is a liar appeared in the sky above the festival grounds, written by a plane. No one claimed responsibility. Some said it was a marketing stunt for a Netflix film that happened to feature a character named Celeste. Netflix did not comment.

Maybe it was a coincidence, but Celeste Riveras Hernandez, who is buried in Rowland Heights, California, could not respond either way. That is the point. After the arrest, Kali Uchis pulled their collaboration Crashing from all streaming platforms, saying, “He is not my friend.” Interscope Records dropped him. Sony Music Publishing dropped him.

His management dropped him. His world tour was canceled. His deluxe album was shelved. His song was quietly removed from a major video game. The career he allegedly killed a child to protect was gone inside a week. David Berk has pleaded not guilty. His defense says the evidence will clear him.

 The autopsy report does not directly name him as the killer. A jury has not heard this case. These things are true and they matter. What is also true, Celeste Rios Hernandez was reported missing three times and the system returned her to danger every time. An email begged someone to take her home. Her name was typed next to the word missing in his own fan community.

 She was backstage at his concert while her parents filed paperwork. She had a matching tattoo on her finger. And when she allegedly threatened to tell the truth, prosecutors say she walked through his door and never walked out. The algorithm made David famous. His bedroom recordings, his Tik Tok virality, his Discord community, his record deal, all of it built a world in which a child could be groomed in plain sight and lost entirely inside a rising career.

 That is what this case is really about. Her parents released one public statement. It said, “Celeste was a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance. Every Friday night was movie night. We love her very much and she always told us that she loved us. We miss her deeply. All we want is justice for Celeste.” This case is still in pre-trial proceedings.
