Is Al Roker retiring? What the ‘Today’ show star said about his future

Is Al Roker really retiring?

Al Roker

That was the question circulating in the wake of the iconic weatherman’s 30th anniversary on “Today” earlier this year.

Folks love Roker, so the thought of him riding off into the sunset is not fun for many, and there is good news for those fans.

That news?

The 71-year-old said in a recent interview with People Magazine that he doesn’t see retirement coming anytime soon.

“Let’s put it this way: I haven’t thought about retirement,” Roker told People.

In typical fashion, he followed that with a joke.

“Somebody at NBC, that might be a different story,” he added.

Roker also made it sound like he is still excited about his work.

“I love what I do,” he told People. “I feel good. I love this job. I love doing it. At some point I guess I won’t be, but I don’t feel like that’s anytime soon, so I’m just gonna keep going.”

Roker replaced another legend — Willard Scott — on the show all the way back in 1996.

“At some point I won’t be a part of the show, somebody else will be, but to be part of a pretty cool club is very special,” Roker said. “To say that this was a dream job isn’t really accurate because it never dawned on me that I could be on the ‘Today’ show.”

Roker, who is a native of New York City, stays busy aside from his job at “Today.” He is a constant when it comes to parade coverage and hosts “Off The Rails” on TODAY Show Radio on SiriusXM.
