The sheriff’s detectives  immediately begin a large-scale investigation into the company that managed the former industrial zone. All official logs, current lists of active and former employees, detailed shift schedules, internal logs for the issuance of keys to technical facilities, as well as archives and recordings from the few surveillance cameras  installed at the official entrances to the former quarry site are officially seized.

 At the same time, analysts are rapidly verifying the documented alibis of absolutely all company employees who, due to the nature of their work, had legitimate access to restricted technical areas and underground utility systems. Gradually, day by day, most of the workers being investigated are able to document their exact whereabouts on that fateful day when the two female students vanished without a trace during their walk using  time cards, statements from relatives or colleagues.

The  investigative team has serious and entirely justified questions regarding only one employee. David Hail, an experienced technician at the company, was unable to convincingly and clearly explain  his whereabouts during the period of interest to the detectives during his first official interview.

 His words sounded uncertain, and his story kept changing. Moreover, when the detectives retrieved and analyzed the detailed data from the electronic GPS navigator installed in his company car, the situation  became even more tense.  As a result of this extensive  operation, investigators seized an entire arsenal of technical devices, several cell phones used by the technician, his personal laptop, an external  hard drive with a large storage capacity, and a portable GPS device seized  directly from his company car.

Experts determined that during the  several months leading up to the tragic disappearance of Mary and Sarah, Gail had shown an unusual interest in a specific location.
