Chiefs 3110. >> Fire me up, man. >> All righty. Monday Night Football could not have started better. You get an interception from your rookie defensive back and then everybody’s wondering what kind of version we’re going to see Pat Mahomes and he let us know right away.

 I mean, that stadium was going insane from the interception to Pat Mahomes scrambling in a touchdown. There’s been some Oh, it was definitely a questionable play. [laughter] >> That’s one of those where you get up slowly like, “Please don’t be any laundry on the floor.” [laughter] had the man up by his neck. Can’t do it.

Can’t do it. Almost cost us. And And to be honest, that would have been Pat Mahome’s second rushing touchdown called back in two plays. He literally did the same thing. >> I don’t know if the first one was a touchdown, but he would either way him using his legs to Yeah. Which uh And that would have like taken us out of the red zone.

>> Yeah. No, that would have been a real bad. >> That was risky business right there, but it would have been very bad. Um No, but uh you know what? Sometimes you just live them right. >> Either way, it was an awesome play and it was a great tone set for the game. So, what are your initial thoughts? There were some other tone setters.

 What were the big takeaways for you? >> My initial thoughts were um you know, this has been this has been brewing for a while. Yeah. And in the building, everybody knows what I’m talking about. From the start of the off season into training camp, the mentality we’ve had to fix the things that we needed to fix to to clean up a lot of the small things to really reinvent the culture of how we do things in Kansas City.

 We feel like we got a great team and this team loves each other, man. And that’s that’s one of the biggest things, man. When you get a a group of men that that want to that have one goal in mind and want to attack that goal every single day uh for the for the betterment of the the guy next to him, um it’s a special feeling, man.

And uh and I just I I absolutely love this team. And um you could tell how much we loved each other out there on that field last night. And damn, it was fun to be out there in Arrowhead, man. arrow when Arrowhead’s rocking like that on a Monday night. Um, you know, it’s a it’s a feeling that, you know, I I don’t ever want to, you know, stop feeling and that’s what that’s what keeps me coming back and playing every single every single year.

 And, uh, that’s what gets me excited uh throughout the uh throughout the work week. We got another big one coming up on a Sunday night this week. But, uh, that was a fun one, man. and to to see Patty Mahomes go through what he went through in terms of rehab and saw the determination from him the the second he had that surgery on on uh on just how he was going to attack this.

Um when your leaders are doing that that kind of stuff, man, you just you you fall in line and you and you it’s infectious. Yeah. >> You know, it’s an infectious thing. And uh I couldn’t be more proud of him on how he came out and just was his uh his his you know old Texas gunslinger self out there just having some fun playing football and uh and lead us leading us into victory.

 And then uh you can’t say enough about what Kenneth Walker >> Yeah. That’s the big >> is and and and what he’s going to be for this this team and this organization and this city, man. He’s one of the He’s one of those Kansas City guys, and you guys that in Kansas City that don’t know him yet, to the core of who that guy is, he’s he’s an A1 person.

 He’s got great character. He’s got great uh you know, attention to detail. He has he has great integrity. Um and and who he is is what you see on that field. And everybody loves playing with him, man. Even everybody in Seattle that I’ve talked to about him says the exact same things. And uh and we’re lucky to have him, man.

But it was a it was a complete showing. Our defense came out, got the interception early. Uh Delane unfortunately got injured on that play, but at the same time, what what a unbelievable way to start start your career. >> One target, one interception. >> There you go. Our Mason, another young guy, got a sack.

 Um defense was flying around. Spags was in his bag in terms of pulling out the blitzes and and the coverages to, you know, to have Bo Knicks and that offense just not in sync. And it was an allaround uh great game for us. And um we know all of them aren’t going to be like that. You know, it it it’s the NFL now, but at the same time, for us to have an entire off seasonason and to come out uh week one and and and put it all together like that, man, it was a fun one.

>> Yeah. Well, speaking of putting it all together, the one guy that put it all together very well is Kenneth Walker. I think that was a big surprise, I think, to everybody was that debut. >> 23 carries, 173 rushing yards, 191 yards total, two touchdowns. He might have had over a hundred yards after contact.

>> Yeah, I’m pretty sure he did. >> I That was the And Denver is a like one of the best defenses in the NFL. They have players across that entire front in the back end. Their linebackers are great. They’re well coached by Vance Joseph >> and they they’re typically in sync, man. They play well together. >> He was running through any little arm tackle, legitimate tackle.

 Like I don’t think I saw him brought down maybe one time by the first guy that touched it. >> I know. >> It was impressive. and the ball to nine. I’ve been saying that [ __ ] all summer, man. >> Well, and to Andy’s credit, like listen, this was a completely reinvented version of the Kansas City Chiefs week one. Like, for what it has been, shotgun, RPO, like spread, air attack.

 Like, that’s what it’s been for the last seven years since Pat’s been there. All of a sudden, under center, multiple tight ends. You guys are are pulling people. And and this was my big thing before the game. It’s like, all right, yeah, Denver’s good. Andy, when he has time to develop a game plan for a specific opponent, whether it’s after a by-week or starting a season, there’s going to be some things dialed up.

 And whether it’s him, whether it’s Benemy coming with from things he learned with Ben Johnson, I thought the offense was very creative, very innovative. >> And that’s the thing, you have to you have to keep in inventing things and being, you know, the this is a league where you will get schemed up in a heartbeat if you’re not reinventing how you’re attacking, how you’re playing the game. Yeah.

 And coach Reed knows that, man. And we got we got a special skill set right now on the offensive side that that we can really exploit a lot of different like exploited defense in a lot of different ways. We have downfield speed. We have a guys in the backfield that can run the game. Everybody was impressed by Kenneth Walker, but EMTT Johnson came in there and and and had a bunch of really good plays.

 I think together those two by themselves had over like 200 yards of or 220 230 yards of >> offense. Yeah, it might have been 250. We got a great back field. We got a great tight end room. We’re grabbing the our guy uh Tonga from the Dline to come in and first fourth down. >> Come on now, baby. In in our in on on our side of the 50, we have pieces to attack defenses and uh yeah, >> in in in unique ways and we feel like we can really have a complete game plan because of the pieces that we got.

>> We talked about that fourth down Andy going for it on your own 50 yardd line on your side of the ball. Like Andy’s aggressive. the defense with spags. They’re blitzing. That was a uh I it felt like you guys were going out there to try and make a statement and it was well executed on all fronts. >> I hear you on the statement.

 The the game felt like a statement because we just wanted to go out there and win that game. You know what I mean? Like we were we were tentative. We were we played with a sense of urgency and uh and you know, we played together. We played together. We got a rookie left tackle and he played absolutely [ __ ] outstanding.

 The offensive line played great. gave gave5 an opportunity to get the ball in the playmakaker hands as well as getting downhill with uh with the running running running game. If we can keep just, you know, looking out for each other, playing together, um and making plays when when given, man, uh you know, it’s it’s going to be a fun year for this offense, man.

 I could feel it. >> Well, if there’s one thing Andy does really well, it’s getting athletic playmakers the ball in space and find ways to make creative uh opportunities for him. And he did that with Ken Kenneth Walker. Kenneth Walker. Last year, the Chiefs only had one explosive run of more than 20 yards all season. >> Walker already has two in the first week. Damn.

>> And not to mention, he outgainained the entire Broncos team. [laughter] >> It’s a good debut. >> Give nine the ball. >> Pat is also back. 15 for 27. It wasn’t a crazy day for Pat Mahomes, but it didn’t need to be. He did what he needed to do, that’s for sure. 207 total yards, three touchdowns, including a rushing touchdown, trickeration touchdown.

 Yeah, I mean, we knew Andy was gonna have some things dialed up. >> Pretty cool. Did you hear you hear his uh response to what that uh the play you’re talking about, the touchdown to Kenneth was >> is uh I think it was the 1930s. Chris Berman uh sent it to him. >> No, >> it might not have been the 30s, but either way, Chris Burman sent him the clip of it and we watched it and [laughter] my mind and it’s so funny watching these old like black and white like >> film of like uh this this like beginning stages of football. Is that everyone?

Yeah. No, [laughter] everybody is the same size. >> Just like there’s no fat boys out there. Just everybody’s like 6′ 210 lb. [laughter] >> And the the thing just absolutely opened up similar to how it did on this one. I was just like, man, that’d be really sweet if I could come flying around there with no hole. Yeah, exactly.

Nobody knew where the ball was. >> Well, you broke another tight end record. And this is not a bungee record. This is not a Buns record. It’s not a record. It’s You’re going into second place all time. >> Second place. That’s not a record. >> Well, you broke you broke Jason Whitten’s record. >> I will say this.

 I [ __ ] I grew up in an era where I saw guys like Tony Gonzalez, Shannon Sharp, >> Shocky, >> Shocky. Um, and then >> Dallas Clark. >> Dallas Clark. Come on now. Keep them coming, baby. >> Talking about all the tight end you guys. And there there was a certain way that they played the game >> that you just love as a football player.

They had the toughness, they had the the savviness in the in the past game. Um and then on top of that, man, um I had no idea that moving to tight end, I would find that much more love for the game. >> I get to do a whole lot more um in terms of just being a football player at the tight end position.

 And uh when I moved to tight end, guys like Jason Whitten were at the helm. >> Yeah. >> And so I’m looking at who are the best in in the world at doing this right now. Tony Gonzalez was there. Jason Whitten was right there. Grank was right there. And I’m looking at these guys and I’m like, >> man, how do I get to that level? >> Yeah.

>> So to be in the same talks as these guys at this point in my career, Jason, it’s an absolute honor to be in the same conversation as you. Um, and uh I’ll have to just play another five years to catch Tony. [laughter] >> Well, yeah, you do have a ways to go to catch Tony. And Tony G has the record of 15,127.

Travis broke Whitten’s record of 13,046 yards and now has 13,67 yards. And you broke it on your biggest play of the day, a 59 yard catch um in the third quarter. Walk us through the play. What happened? >> I mean, coverage, heavy blitz. Yeah, it was cover zero. >> Was it zero? I knew it was blitz. I think you’re right.

 Somebody said it was zero online, so I’m pretty sure you’re right. >> Yeah, it’s cover zero. Um, heavy inside leverage. I got a route where >> outbreaker. >> Yeah. And and it’s like kind of like a fake inside come out. It’s called a whip route. I can talk about it now because it was it’s all over the internet. But >> yeah.

 Were you when you when you go in there, you see it happening. Are you like, “Oh, this boss >> already.” Yeah. I’m like, I got to quicken this up. Patty Mahome’s going to be one, two, three, bang. >> Yes. At least that’s what I’m hoping. >> Yeah. >> No, it was uh it was a play where you just got to be uh you got to be ready for the QB knowing that it’s blitz.

 You know what I mean? It’s like, you know, uh >> you know, he’s going to be hot. He’s going to have to get the ball out quick. >> He’s going to have to get the ball out quick. And uh and then on top of that, manto man coverage. When you catch the ball, you make one man miss. >> A lot of grass. >> We’re going down the slipping slide.

>> You were kind OF LIKE >> you were like weaving. I was bullshitting what I was doing. [laughter] I just got pick a side. pick a side and run. Uh, I got the cavalry out in front of me. Taekquin was out there working. >> I know. People are talking about a hold. I don’t think that’s he up the entire time. Was driving his feet.

>> I don’t want to hear none of that. You can talk about yours, but [laughter] >> Well, technically I didn’t grab anything. I just kind of hugged him. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. I did text uh Troy when that happened because Troy said on the broadcast like, “Think this is a hold by Kelse. I missed this one.

” I was like, “Hands are inside. Hands are inside.” He’s like He texted back. Yeah. No. Russell didn’t think so. >> Our expert over here at ESPN didn’t [laughter] called him out on it. >> You can always tell a lot about teams and how the guys start finding work when it’s not their job, right? Like they they’re just playing ball.

>> That’s got to be the MO, man. That’s got to be the MO. I think uh I’m always working to be better at that as well as, you know, everybody on the Chiefs, man. But when you got guys fighting for, you know, your brother’s extra extra gains and those extra first downs or those big plays, um, it’s just fun, man.

 Yeah, >> it’s a fun ride, man. >> Well, it was fun for the rookies. Rookies, we already talked about it had a pretty good showing for the Chiefs. Mansour Delane had an interception in one play or two plays, I guess. It was the third play of the game. >> Third play. >> Third third down. Yeah. First play throwing at him, one target, one interception, one shoulder injury.

 We’ll see how he does next week. But hell of a start for him. Edge player Arm Mason Thomas got in on a sack early. Had a couple other pressures. Peter Woods got the pressure. Peter was in there clogging up the middle in that run game doing his thing and then trying to get to the QB in the pass game. >> It Listen, man.

 The Dline, we we’ve got some young guys that can absolutely ball, man. and they they built a lot of that confidence and a lot of that, you know, >> uh that passion in college and to be able to step into a defense that like Spags where you’re going to get opportunities to get those matchups that favor that you that favor your skill set.

 Um you know that these guys are out there, you know, excited at getting after it, man. >> Yeah. The other rookie that we uh we already mentioned once was Khalil Benson. obviously starting playing a really good defensive line in general, but great player in Nick Bonito. Uh held his own, didn’t allow a single pressure. Now Chiefs are helping him out quite a bit, right? Got some chip help, but did some really good things in the run game.

I I like what the kid can do. >> Come on now, baby. >> Yeah, he he had a good showing. >> Can play, man. Spags is the one thing that I wish, you know, there’s a lot of new guys in place on defense, but I we got to give some love to Spags for what he did throughout the game plan and blitzing simulated pressures, mixing it up, keeping the Denver Broncos kind of on edge about what they were seeing.

>> And you know, coming into the game, it’s like, how all these young guys going to do? You know, what’s this defense going to look like? And it still looked pretty. >> Yeah, man. It was around, man. >> Spags has been in his bag for the last three years and uh picking up right where he left off, man.

 It was good to see from the defense for sure. >> You know it. And we’re uh and we’re off to Sunday Night Football. We were playing a little Monday Night Football. Now we got a LITTLE SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. >> INDIANAPOLIS COLTS. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? >> OH, YOU’RE READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL. >> Shane Stiken. >> Yeah. Uh >> Daniel Jones.

>> I haven’t I haven’t peakedked at him other than just watching that uh that Ravens game last week. um know they’re they’re gonna be hungry. Um you know, it’s uh it’s a team with a great defensive line. I know that for a fact. Yeah. Got some got some players in the Yep. Lose, you know, had our number in a few games we played him.

 Man, he’s unbelievable. I don’t know how the hell he got out of Cincinnati. But um you know, Indianapolis has a great coach in in him. And on top of that, they got some great players on the back end. Obviously, a friend of the show, S Gardner, Cincinnati Bearcat. >> Shout out. Shout out. And I think Danny Dimes is a is a good player, man.

 It’s uh obviously he showed a lot from last year. Um and uh we’re definitely going to, you know, be in for it because everybody’s going to get excited for a little Sunday Night Football, man. >> I mean, just look at the way the team dropped off when Danny got hurt, right? They were rolling. They were looking really good in the AFC up until that moment.

 Then all of a sudden, it was a toughing. Philip Rivers came in out of retirement. Had a a great showing. Loved watching that. But Danny being healthy, this team, this Colts team is good. I know they didn’t win week one because Baltimore looks like a super team right now, but um you know they’re going to be fired up coming into Arrowhead for this one for sure.

 Well, Trav Andy called you old. >> That’s just because everybody else is calling me old. >> Well, he did have >> Andy sees these glutes. [laughter] >> All about the glutes. >> It’s all about the glutes, baby. >> Keep them glutes firing. >> Andy Reed quoted as saying, “Three for 71 yards are pretty good for an old man.” >> I’ll have to keep surprising him with my my youthfulness.

 What do young kids wear now? What do What are all the young guys doing? >> All the young guys, what are they wearing? They’re wearing the uh [snorts] the Marne slippers. You see those Mary slippers? Is like slippers talking about? Yeah. Yeah. Everybody’s wearing slippers and the and the house shoes. House I don’t know how house shoes became so popular outside the house.

I have no interest in doing it. >> I’m embracing my old man status. Have you played it? >> No. Not that I’m I I’ll watch it. It’s entertaining. It is. >> It’s actually kind of crazy how in sync and how quickly >> I was 10 years younger.

 I might be into this, but I’m not. So, I’m not doing I don’t know. I miss the way [laughter] I missed the intro level and now they’re at such a >> This is happening too fast. Yeah.  So yeah, I mean uh listen, everybody’s been curious to see what this offense is going to look like with Shawn Manion. Uh my big takeaway from the game is that Jaylen Herz looked really good. like I >> looking great >> despite them, you know, him getting some pressure, them struggling in the run game a little bit and things kind of being off tilt.

 He made some big plays when they needed him. Huge play to uh Wix early in the game. >> That was a great ball. >> Awesome. Couple awesome plays to Dallas. >> Come on now, baby. Be good at quarterback. Just find the tight end. Find the tight end. Just find the tight end, man. >> Nice play down the sideline. >> I’ve always thought Dallas needs to get way more touches out there, man.

 Well, this offense I think will will will fit him pretty well. You know, all this misdirection and stuff. They scheme things up and it stresses those linebackers, but I think um the big thing is obviously they struggled a little bit up front. Uh Landon Dickerson now on IR was I mean he’s one of the toughest guys I’ve ever played with.

>> Yeah. Yeah. And it got announced yesterday. He’s one of the toughest dudes ever, man. He he he tries to play through everything and uh you know I think it’s the right decision. You know, you could tell he wasn’t redirecting as well as he needs to or has. Um, and it’s a shame because when he’s healthy, he is one of the best guards.

>> Best. Yeah. >> So, he struggled a little bit in the game and then, um, I think, you know, Cam Jurgens had a couple holding calls. I don’t think he played as bad as I think what Twitter maybe, uh, seemed to say. Going back and watching the tape, I think it was just like, you know, they just struggled to get in a rhythm.

 Had one big run of play where Saquon Barkley made like an awesome cut uh on an inside zone, ironically, shotgun run, which wasn’t one of the underneath stuff that they’ve been really trying to develop. lot of blitzes off the edge. We knew Washington was going to come in doing more of this Brian Flores thing and they got us a couple times on these like edge pressures in the front side of it.

 Some blitzes into the uh and protections. But again, I think if I’m an Eagles fan, I’m happy because Jaylen Herz look good. >> I think a lot of that other stuff will get corrected and as these guys continue to get reps in this offense, we’ll improve. So, um they got the win. Was it the prettiest? No.

 But we’ll take that one for sure. >> Yeah. I mean, you I’ve been in the same system, so I can’t really attest to this, but you you’re you’ve been in a few different offenses, or at least the terminology has changed in a lot of them. How long how long does it take >> from the beginning of a new offense or a new system coming in for you to get comfortable in that system? >> Um, I think it’s >> obviously Manion coming in for Philly and this being week one.

>> I think some of it is different. I think like it felt like with Chip, we were rolling right out the gate. >> Right out the gate. >> And a lot of that is >> I think he had like seven touchdowns the first game. He set the record. >> Well, the first game was was with Vic. >> We and it was against the Commanders and we I think we had like over we had over um what’s the uh not 50 points.

 What do we have at halftime? Over 50 plays ran at halftime. I think we ran close to 100 plays in the whole game. Vic was throwing the ball all over. They couldn’t stop the run. I mean, it was a crazy first game. But I listen, when you’re running a no huddle like tempo offense, the playbook is paired down, so it’s not as complex.

 When Doug came back in, it took me a couple weeks to get into rhythm. I had a terrible starting the first year with Doug. I think it’s different for different guys. I expected it to be a little bit slower for Jaylen because I think that’s the guy who it felt like was going to be the most different. Ironically, he looked the best out of everybody on the first week.

Uh, offensive linewise, they’ve all run these plays, but they’re coached and the little details and the Amy points are just slightly different. Um, and I thought it was a big test. Like, I I thought going into the game, like, you know, Washington isn’t necessarily an opponent that everybody is fearful of, but they’re running a different defense.

They’re going to be blitzing like crazy. And now we’re running a new system. The angles are slightly different. And on top of that, we’re going to see an aggressive guys are going to be slanting. They’re blitzing off the edges. They’re running corner blitzes. It’s I knew it was going to be a test for these guys to run this new offense for everything that was going to be thrown at him. And it was.

 And you know, shout out to um I think it’s Donte Jones, the new DC in Washington. I thought he did a good job. Their front played really well. Uh but I do think overall the Eagles will get better from it. >> Oh yeah, >> the front’s going to play better. Landon going on IR getting healthy. We’ll see what they do.

 I don’t know what they’re going to do. I mean, um, Drew Kendall played really well in the preseason, as did Willie Lamkin. We’ll see who ends up getting the start next week. >> My god, Lamin in there, man. >> I like Willie a lot. >> Come on, man. >> Yeah, >> get everybody fired up. >> Yeah, Drew is great, too, though. Don’t sleep on Drew.

>> I mean, Lin Lin is the one that we were talking about. Um, and the one I saw the highlights of. Uh well, you talking about Herz 14 for 25, 203 yards, three touchdowns, two to my guy Dallas GD. Yep. >> Um Dallas had 77 yards in two tubs. >> Solid day at the ballpark. >> Very solid. Very solid. >> Definitely have some things to build on on top of that, but also have some things to fix as every single week one.

But at the end of the day, one and0 can’t doesn’t get better than that. >> It was definitely from past week. >> So badass. >> Yeah, it was. I mean, it’s great effort. split the double team. I would have blown both my gasket. Like you would have just seen veins popping out of my like neck if I had ever made a play like that.

 Um so it’s the NFL >> any given Sunday. >> Any given Sunday, you got to come prepared or you get your uh your teeth kicked in. >> And that uh that that does it for uh Chiefs and Eagles. Um, you want to get to the rest of week one? >> Let’s do it. OFFENSE IS BACK. >> I’M ABOUT IT, MAN. >> How about that? The points have been trending down the last couple years as teams have gone to these shell coverages and eliminating explosive plays, but offenses appear to have adjusted.

 10 teams scored 30 or more points in all on Sunday. More points in any week one since they uh started counting this statistic. >> Oh [ __ ] that’s crazy. You never want to overreact to week one, but I do always think, you know, it’s always funny how it it goes back and forth, right? Like the offense has the upper hand.

 It feels like then defenses adjust and then they kind of got you for a couple years and then it it feels like the offenses have started adjusting. More fullback usage. It’s like three times higher than it’s ever been. More under center, right? More 21 and 12 personnel. More Kenneth Walkers and running the football, right? Teams are playing too high.

 All right, we’re back. the bully ball in New York. >> Oh yeah. >> Yeah, man. It’s uh this is a fun day and age if you like running the rock, you like physical play and uh it feels like offenses have really adjusted to how the defenses are playing things and that that is probably a big reason why the points are up.

 It’s not just a fluke week one [snorts] defenses haven’t worked on tackling because nobody plays in the preseason games. It does feel like this might be a trend for the whole season. What do you think? >> I think the offense is >> Let’s go, baby. >> Offenses are up, baby. Let’s go. >> They also ran up the score out there in uh Chicago, man.

 They had a combined 96 points between the Bears and and Panthers. That’s pretty [ __ ] nuts. >> Yeah, man. Ben Johnson is a mad scientist, dude. >> He really is. >> You watch this guy’s game plan, how he uses the tight ends, all the different run schemes, and it’s just it’s so fun to watch. >> Started off on the right foot.

 He said in uh earlier in the preseason his goal was to break the 2013 Broncos scoring record. And when you put up 59 points, >> a good start >> in the first game, you’re really giving yourself a chance, Ben. And to be honest, their team is fun to watch, man. >> Yeah, >> they really are. They they they run the ball really well with DeAndre Swift, >> who I don’t know how >> he got out of Philly.

>> Yeah. I The guy has been a baller everywhere he’s went. He finally got paid over there in Chicago. Happy as hell for him. He’s running the [ __ ] rock. He can He’s good out of the back field. >> Yeah. >> Then on top of that, two-headed monster at the tight end position. And I know my dog, my dog Coulson didn’t get a uh Lovelin didn’t get uh a lot of looks, but uh Cole KT uh had a big had a big touchdown. Yep.

>> Um and they’re wide receivers, man. Their wide receivers make plays downfield >> and uh and Caleb is back there slinging the rock and uh and making plays with his feet. It’s a fun It’s fun offense to watch. >> Well, the offense looked great. Defensive was not as great. Gave up some points and also had one of the saddest plays I’ve ever seen.

 Let’s let’s play this clip. Stout always says you want to punish the blitzer. Break his will. I don’t even I don’t think there was any will going into this one. It just felt like he knew he was gonna get blocked. And [laughter] >> did he get hurt? >> I don’t know. It looks like he gets hurt. >> Well, we can’t make fun of him if he got hurt.

 49ers went in there and they played their asses off. >> They were flying the >> defense. I think people forget because they had so many injuries like I did. I forgot how good these guys are. >> I didn’t. >> Yeah. No, you’re smarter than me. Nick Bosa was [ __ ] flying around throwing guys all over the [ __ ] place. And their entire defense, they got Green Law back. He was flying around.

 And not only that, they’re hitting [ __ ] They were coming downhill. They were ready for that [ __ ] game. They heard all the talk about, you know, the Rams in the media and you could tell they were a little fired up from it. And like we said, the Rams are going to be just fine. They’re still going to be one of the best teams in in the NFL and Super Bowl contenders.

 Um, but at the same time, man, that uh that Niners team, Brock Perie, came out, had a great game. They went to my guy George who [ __ ] fought his ass off after an Achilles injury to get back healthy and be there for week one. Happy as hell for him. Uh, get KD out there. The NFL is just that much better when we get my guy G KD out there. No doubt.

>> Um, and then my guy Demarcus Robinson who used to play for the Rams, used to play for us. He’s been [ __ ] stout everywhere he’s been. >> Had a big time game. Um the Niners really put it together out there, man. They they look like they were playing. Debo’s back out there. Yep. >> Um he had a great game as well.

 And it’s just when they’re rolling, man, that is that is a team to be feared in the NFL. And they showed a they showed it out there in Australia. >> Everybody’s talking about the travel, so let’s bring it up. Why not? I don’t think that this was as much of an impact as everybody’s making it to be, but the Rams flew 15 hours to Australia one day before versus the 49ers who went a whole week in advance.

 So, the debate you’re always trying to make, do you go early to earlier to acclimate to the environment or do you go later? And uh the one thing that always stands out to me is like there’s always like somebody that comes up who’s done like some scientific research. >> There’s always a scientific researcher who’s done the scene. >> Actually, your circadian rhythms don’t [laughter] get more affected if you’ve been there for 24 hours as opposed to Yeah.

 It’s >> where’s the sun and the >> And to me, >> where’s the moon in Gohead? To me, all these science, whatever they put in front of the team to sell you on the reason they’re doing it is you can find the science to say whatever the [ __ ] you want to do. Like you can pick and pull. Like they they made a whole study out of saying chocolate’s healthy for you cuz it has like antioxidants in it.

So anyways, [laughter] >> so what happens in my opinion is these organizations, >> these organizations or the coaches go into it with like, it’ be really nice. >> Do you want to go out there? >> It would be really nice to not be out there all week.  What’s the science say? [laughter] Well, there’s this one thing that says that your Harvard did a great study on >> Let’s send 12 guys out there before time.  Now, there’s some times where guys are going a little bit at the line like you run down a toss crack motion. I am for the way that they work within the rules to utilize that motion.

 And I think a lot of the outrage is fake uh to create engagement. So, uh what the hell was the call in the Saints game? A lot of other people did not know this specific rule including they asked Jared Goff after the game. He didn’t even know the rule. So before we see it, if the quarterback gets hit as he’s throwing the ball >> Mhm.

>> and the ball goes backwards, what is that? >> I guess it’ be a fumble. >> Apparently not. Let’s play the clip. The rule is because the ball doesn’t get dislodged in his hand. Like he maintains control of it and he’s trying to throw the ball like the intent is to throw the ball forward and he doesn’t lose control.

 The hit is the thing that makes him throw it backwards. By rule, it’s an incomplete pass because he was intending to throw it forward. >> But they’re saying his arms coming forward. >> As long as you’re trying to throw the ball and you haven’t lost control, >> it’s got to be arms coming. >> I’m telling you, it’s not that. I promise you >> that’s pretty crazy.

 It’s he is intending to throw the ball. >> Sometimes you watch slow motion football of a guy just getting [ __ ] smoked from the >> dude.  That’s what’s like weird. Like it’s not even that the arm wasn’t going forward when the initial contact was made. It’s that it just like threw it backwards, but he only threw it backwards because he was hit. So, he wasn’t intending to throw back. I just think rules that factor in like intent are stupid.

 How do you factor that in? >> I don’t know. I think it’s here here and there. I think that that right there, judging it by just looking at it, that looked like a fumble. >> It should be a fumble. Glad we’re on the same page. Uh, week one upsets, biggest one. Probably the Chargers. Not a lot of people saw Arizona coming out and winning that game.

>> Yeah. Jacobe Brassette. >> Shout out to, you know, first dub for Laflur. >> Yep. Yep. Jacob Brousette. I’ve always thought he’s a >> he’s a baller guy. >> He’s a good quarterback. >> He’s a baller. He got some weapons over there. >> He is a professional quarterback. Not the most.

 I mean, he can’t really run for [ __ ] but he’s [laughter] he is he will take care of the football. >> That’s the thing.  Justin Herbert, in my opinion, is a good quarterback. Obviously, they didn’t look good this first week, but they’re going to get things rolling. >> Yeah. The biggest one for me was that Cowboys Giants game. I thought the Cowboys were going to come out and really >> come to life. The Giants came. >> Shout out to the other Harbaugh brother.

John Harbaugh had those boys rolling, man. >> Rolling. And they look like they [ __ ] love playing ball together, man. >> He talked about it all off seasonason. We’re building the bully. And that’s what they did, man. Patrick Ricard was on the snap for like 30 on the field for like 36 snaps. >> Come on now. >> Fullback.

>> Come on now. Big dog. >> Scataboo was running physical. Jackson Dart looked great in the pocket. Like he’s always been good off schedule and like making [ __ ] happen and running downfield, but he was very good throwing the ball yesterday, taking care of it. >> Isaiah likely. >> Isaiah likely had a big game.

>> Two tubs. Throw the ball to the tight end. Forgot to say this about Trey McBride. Throw the ball to the tight end. I think a lot of people have been really high on the Cowboys because they fixed their defense or they’ve made a bunch of adjustments to their defense. Well, just because you added a bunch of new players in Decor doesn’t ma magically make your defense great right away.

 Christian Parker was in Philadelphia, Vic Fangio, Disciple, bringing that defense to Dallas. That’s a complex defense to run. [music] That is multiple fronts. You’re playing four down fronts, five down fronts, six down fronts. You’re doing all sorts of different blitzes, different coverages. Everything’s kind of trying to be disguised.

 That’s a lot to ask a bunch of They had only had three starters returning on defense. They got a rookie safety plan. This this there’s a lot to try and get that thing orchestrated. There was some blown plays by that defense. It did not look good. I do think it’s going to get better. Not a good first showing. Great first showing for New York.

 They looked >> Jackson looked like he’s stepping into his own over there, man. >> Yeah. >> Happy for him and happy for my guy Nags over there in New York as well. Matt Naggie. That offense looked like a Matt Naggie and Greg Roman offense. >> It looked like he combined them both. >> The run game and everything that you get out of a Greg Roman offense was awesome and dialed in and then it felt like Jackson Dart was playing better and just watching it.

 Now listen, when you run the ball like that, he seemed comfortable, man. >> Yes. The one thing I know is he came out there smelling pretty good. >> I was going to say, man, listen, >> just depends on how potent you want to be. >> That’s one of those where you’re you’re hope you’re not stuck in an elevator with that person. But [laughter] listen, if it’s Jameus Winston, he pulling it off. I’m telling you that right now.

It’s like rotten eggs plus flowers.

 I don’t really know how it works. >> You just crop dusted and walked over there. >> Well, yeah. Um that’s cuz I’m That’s what you do to start the perfume. Then you come back and then it’s like, “Man, Jason smells really good. You smell like >> So you just don’t you don’t combat that with [laughter] anything?” >> I got my deodorant on.

 LRC c nice username. A player switches. >> When a player switches teams, do they share everything they know about their former team? Usually yes. >> Um this is a strategy that is actually often used. Sometimes you’ll see your team about to play um a let’s say the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys will sign a Philadelphia Eagle off the practice squad two weeks before the game. Very mysterious.

 Oh, what a coincidence. And then all of a sudden they know all of our calls and all of our formations. >> Um no, this is very common practice. Pretty much at this point, everybody knows everybody’s calls in the NFL and all of these things because they have it written down by players telling them all this stuff routinely.

 Scott would always be like, “A little birdie told me they like to do this, this, and oh, so you asked uh you asked Mayor Gordon about Seattle, [laughter] >> our defensive assistant, who was their defensive assistant last year.” >> Real uh [laughter] um so no, this is very common practice. It does happen. Uh the the ratting program in the NFL is pretty pretty intense.

>> Listen, man. If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying. >> Yeah. I mean, listen, you got to make you got to make a living.  I can’t imagine how much you guys get it. how much the game has grown. >> It definitely feels like uh a lot of people say that to us, which is really kind because there was never a thought in either of our heads that that was going to be >> I had no idea. That was Yeah, that was a pleasant surprise seeing all the little girls in the stands at games and you could see a proud father right there standing next to them.

 It’s it’s a it’s definitely been fun to see that like >> surprise, >> you know? I think a lot of like a lot of the the women and girls maybe they maybe they like watched one game to see me cheer on my boyfriend or whatever, but if they if they stayed, which is what people are saying based on the numbers, that’s because the game is so great and >> it’s such an amazing interesting thing to learn about.

>> I will say it was it was cool to see the comparison of it all because she the way she runs her her tour, her show, her like team and everything like that. is very like team friendly. There are similarities in terms of um her athleticism. >> Yeah. >> What she’s doing for 3 hours. >> I mean, listen, I was screaming.

 I was screaming for 40 seconds during the intro and [laughter] I’m out of breath. >> That’s what I’m saying. That’s what I’m saying. But the preparation it takes >> work on that. I got a whole regimen for you. We’ll get you on the tour prep. It’ll be great. >> Perfect. Perfect. the goals that you set for yourself to achieve like it’s very like there are there are some similarities that I thought you found like I don’t know like fascinating that you kind of have that same regimen uh going into stuff and I thought that was

uh that was fun for me to at least uh see when I saw you on tour and saw how much of a of a team you guys were >> on paper like we actually kind of have a very similar job like our job is to entertain people for three plus hours in NFL stadiums and it’s like [laughter] >> it’s Like when I’m there, it’s called a dressing room.

 When Travis is there, it’s called a locker room. For me, it’s called a rehearsal. For him, it’s called a practice. >> For him, it’s called his coach. For me, it’s my mom. >> Uh, so, [laughter] uh, yeah. So, there will be times for like game game versus show, right? I’ll be like, “Baby, how was the show?” Game >> game. >> How was the rehearsal? The practice [laughter] >> uh, you know, field, stage, they’re the same thing.

 We just call them different things. >> Yes. Exactly. It was cool to see the comparisons and how it kind of I don’t know both aligned and her how hard she works in the gym. We’ve been to the gym like numerous times and she works harder than me every time. >> That’s not true. That’s crazy. [laughter] You can like squat lift a car.

 He’s just telling he’s just saying words. >> That’s just That’s just genetic. That’s just genetics. >> Saying words. >> That’s just one rep. That’s one rep. This is what people can do more. [laughter] >> Yeah. I’ve heard about the we’ve talked about the treadmill walkin while you’re doing the whole show and like all of that. We can’t walk for four hours.

 When’s the last time you walked for four hours, Travis? >> I’m I’ve never even tried that. [laughter] I’m not stupid enough to try something like that. >> You kidding me? My knees would be shredded. >> Oh my god. >> So, one of one of the other things that’s been crazy to witness is just the media attention, right? Like I think you play in the in the NFL.

 You think >> on on the two the two of us? >> Well, let me >> Okay. The media attention on your guys’ relationship on the amount of people that talk about it constantly, the theories that are out there, of which I am probably way too invested in. What how do you guys handle all of the noise and chatter about everything that’s going on in both of your lives? We we don’t really I don’t see a lot of things.

 I’m of the firm belief that like you know if you’re basing your kind of if you’re getting your feedback from the internet or from comments and stuff like I just really think that like anything you put anything you feed your brain it will internalize. Anything you feed the internet it will kill. >> Yeah. >> I’ve been I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years.

 It’s pretty hard to hurt my feelings at this point. >> She’s a pro and it took me a little while to be a pro about it. I think I think init and there’s still some like wacko theories from the beginning that I was very like oh no like how is she handling this? I I don’t like the last thing I wanted to do is screw this up. >> So I’m like in my mind is like >> her being so calm, cool, collected and so just real and understanding about everything that’s going on um really made me grow up real fast in that in that aspect of things. But also, I think

the fact that that you genuinely find a lot of online discourse to be truly hilarious. >> Absolutely. >> And that changes things for me because >> discourse and truth, you know, find the humor in it. [laughter] Find the humor in it. >> If he’s seeing things and he thinks it’s funny >> and it doesn’t even affect his day at all, like that’s really completely bled into the way that I metabolize these things.

 It’s at a point where like I can something can be about me. Like my name can be in the actual headline and it can still be none of my business. [laughter] >> Okay. >> People can be out here. People might be out here doing too much. >> Just shaking ass. >> Doesn’t mean I have to do a damn thing. [laughter] >> Yeah. >> We live in such a social media moment where a lot of people’s identities and >> and they get their feedback from that, right? Like, >> and I’m a real constructive criticism guy.

 Like, give me constructive criticism all day. I will take it. >> It’ll fuel me. >> It’s helpful, right? >> But I have so many like friends or acquaintances or people where like >> they’ll see one comment they don’t like, right? >> And it will ruin their day. It’ll ruin their night. Like, and I just want to say to them like you should you should think of your energy as if it’s expensive, as if it’s like a luxury item. Not everyone can afford it. Yeah.

Like not everyone has invested in you in order to be able to have the capital for you to care about this, >> right? >> Because like what you spend your energy on, that’s the day. >> And it’s so true, >> right? Like it doesn’t matter where you were. Like maybe you went to go get coffee today, maybe you saw friends today.

 If you were obsessing over one thing that you saw like you literally like saw some guy call you mid >> and this and you [laughter] you can’t stop THINKING ABOUT IT. >> NO, HE DID NOT. WHO CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT, DUDE. THAT’S THE day then. That’s the night then. And so I I just I’ve been able to sort of mediate a really healthy relationship with not seeing a whole lot >> to what you just said too, the social media expounds every all of this because everybody knows if they say one thing but all of a sudden if they put Taylor Swift attached to it, it’s going to get

a thousand more retweets and likes and hate comments or love comments or whatever. It’s going to stir up tons of controversy. Totally. >> And I’m I get this way all the time where I just recently like went into the facility with Cam Jurgens. And something was happening like in the social media world that I was like, why are people like upset at this person? This is [ __ ] yada yada.

 And Cam just hit me with like, are they really though? Or did just one person say something? Cuz I used to get the same way where I’d get upset and then it took me like actually nobody really gives a [ __ ] about this. >> Jason’s early Twitter [laughter] years. Oh, baby. >> Oh my god. >> Oh, baby. He had to get off. He had to He had to literally step away.

>> It hit me right between the eyes >> cuz he would respond to I wouldn’t say everybody, but he he wasn’t shy of letting people know how he felt on Twitter. Oh yeah. >> Based off of their comments. It was honestly Philadelphia. You guys know this. It was a treat. And it’s become a treat again now that he’s back on because you’ll have a friendly conversation.

 You >> Well, Twitter used to be like a different, right? Look, you remember Twitter? You’re like I fed a The squirrel ate a piece of bread. Didn’t know they need to get back on straight smashed it. Now that there’s auto correct used to be, right? I’m like, I need a pair of scissors to open this >> these scissors.

 Like we’re just thinking things, right? It’s like a different thing now. And it’s kind of about like information is power, I guess, unless all of your information is geared towards you thinking that everything is about you. cuz you know no not everyone is ever thinking about one person all the time at any point. It’s just like if your algorithm is giving you either >> criticisms of yourself or agilation or praise it it’s you’re creating an ecosystem in which you’re the the centerpiece of the table and I just don’t think that’s healthy. Like that’s

not the way I want to move through the world. >> So I do detach from the internet in a huge way. Like I’m just not I have never I have had my comments disabled on Instagram for like 10 years now. >> Yeah. >> And >> I don’t miss it. >> Yeah. I found that out after the Ars tour. [laughter] >> I was comments were going to be the first one.

>> Dude, the problem is I get so mad I then go and look at all the other comments and then Twitter just feeds me more. >> Dude, you’re on like Reddit. Boom. Boom. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Whereas whereas I’m like, I don’t know what this is, but get it out of my office. It’s on fire. >> Yeah. >> My business is is making music and taking care of my fans, and I have ways of monitoring what they want from me and how best to entertain them, which is my job.

>> Yeah. >> And everything else, I’m just sort of like, it’s not my business. I have actual business that I need to run. >> Mhm. >> Can you imagine if we just talked about what people said about our relationship? Yeah, >> cuz that if we talked about that, >> that would be all we talked about because there’s so much chatter.

And it’s sparkly. >> Entering a new era. >> Sparkly. >> It’s very nice. So what is the significance of the color orange? Why orange? >> I’ve just always liked it, Jason.

 It really [laughter] It really feels like >> I don’t know. It feels like it feels like kind of energetically how my life has felt. And this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and and vibrant. And you know, one of the things about this record is like it’s uh it’s a record I made with uh my mentor Max Martin and Shellback.

 And this the three of us have made some of my favorite songs that I’ve ever done before. >> Which ones, if you don’t mind me asking? Well, they were my main collaborators on the Red album. We did We Are Never Getting Back Together, I Knew You Were Trouble, 22. Uh, Shake It Off, Blank Space Style, Wildest Dreams. >> Oh, hell yes.

 [laughter] >> You know, ready for it. >> So, that’s the that’s the energy we’re going with. Yes, I understand why it’s orange now. Okay. >> So, yeah, we’ve made we’ve made songs that I’m so proud of. >> There’s going to be some [ __ ] bangers. Yes, I I’m picking it up, dude. >> Yeah, it’s it’s like telling you it’s like that.

 And so basically, we’ve never actually made an album before where there where it’s just the three of us. There’s no other collaborators. It’s just the three of us making a focused album where I mean, it felt like it felt like catching lightning in a bottle. Honestly, we hadn’t worked together in like seven or eight years. And >> the speeds just they’re just something there’s something about them.

 They these guys they like they’re just geniuses in in in different avenues, in different ways. And we kind of um >> I’m going to put it down. >> I’ve just I’ve never like this today’s the first day I’ve seen it. Do you know what I mean? I’m just like so Travis is just going to cradle it the whole time. >> Don’t drop the baby.

 I will not drop this baby. >> So it’s like uh working with them again was absolutely incredible. And actually when I was on tour in Stockholm, I had Max Martin come out to the show and I was talking to him and I was like, I I just feel like I feel like we could just knock it out of the park if we went back in and we did this all in Sweden and it was just us three.

>> Like I want to I essentially said to him, I want to be as proud of of an album as I am of the Aeros Tour and for the same reasons, you know, and >> and he was like, do you understand what kind of pressure that is? >> Yeah. Say that is okay. I was like, “Yeah, >> why would you?” Yeah, we can try. So, your entire career. Got it.

 Yeah, we can do that on one album. [laughter] >> Let’s do it. >> Well, okay. >> So, it’s like, you know, I I spent time in the time that we were off doing different projects and he and Shellback were doing different things and I was making albums that were a little bit more esoteric like folklore. >> So, how much you said these big words? >> You know what esoteric means? >> I know. It’s for a specific following.

>> Exactly. Exactly. He he knows what that means. He pretends he doesn’t know what these words mean, but he knows what >> means for a specific following like a specific genre of people. >> He knows what it means. >> Okay. >> He’s doing he does like he does like a pretty I don’t know what it means thing, but he knows all the words and he knows what they mean.

 And he may not have read Hamlet, but I explained it to him. >> There we go. >> Don’t tell my middle school English teacher I didn’t read. [clears throat and laughter] >> So, >> because I definitely was supposed to. >> Spark nodes. It’s all right. >> Yes. >> Jason, [sighs] your Reddit searches need to be more focused on >> We need to get We need to get We need your relationship with the internet to be like a little bit pure. >> Don’t I I got the algorithm. I got the algorith. >> My relationship with the My relationship with the internet is bad.

 [laughter] It is. It’s about as bad as it can get. >> Yeah. >> Sorry. >> No, you’re fine. So I was like I I I made a few >> records that were a bit more like >> specific in their sound or whatever like folklore Evermore. Those were a little bit more like alt folk kind of leaning and just kind of exploring and trying to challenge myself as a writer.

 And I feel like both Max and Shelback did that too in their own ways going out into the world. And when we by the time we came back together, I feel like we had so much more dexterity to what we do. And it’s almost like we’d all grown up so much. Like Shellback and I were both in our early 20s when we started working together, the three of us.

 And so it was very much like we were the Anenuse and Max was the mentor. And this was the time where it felt like all three of us in the room were carrying the same weight as creators. And it was really special. It like meant the world to me to have this creative experience where like we knew that we had to bring the best ideas we’ve ever had.

>> Yeah. >> And I know I also know the pressure I’m putting on this record by saying that, but I don’t care cuz I love it that much. And I’m so proud of it. And it just comes from like the most >> infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. And so that effervescence has come through on this record and like as you said bangers and >> bangers >> and we were just like >> there’s no other songs coming.

 It’s not like like with torture poets department I was like here’s a data dump of everything I’ve thought felt [laughter] like in two or three years. Here’s 31 songs. This is 12. There’s not a 13th. I just said like, “Can I go on the podcast cuz Brad Pitt did it and I want to do it, too.” [laughter] >> And Jason was like, “Yes, I mean, we can make that happen.

” The request or the ask from either one of us was never going to come. I don’t know why I would never ask you. I just I I I don’t know. Yeah. Brandon still hates me because I never asked you, but I think this is way better. We waited till I had some stuff to say, I think. There we go. >> You know, I had to I I was waiting till I had like a sparkly briefcase to bring.

[laughter] >> I needed props. It took a long time to put that into production. >> So, well, it is finished. And uh do you want to tell everybody when it’s coming out? >> It comes out October 3rd. >> October 3rd. >> This album comes out October 3rd. It’s easy to remember. It’s 103. >> 103. >> Still annoying.

 It is also your birthday week. We got Wyatt October 2nd, we got you October 5th, and then we got mom October 9th. >> So, this is a good this is a good month. >> Yeah, I picked a good month. >> It’s going to be a good week. >> You know, all these all these Libras 10 >> 13 Opal birth. >> I’m picking up this numerology. There we go. There we go.

>> See, I knew you could >> never not annoying. Always always going to try to force a 13 into the situation. And and this one was right there. It was just right there. for the photos. There’s a lot more there are a lot more photos in this and there’s there’s um a poem in this and basically I love the photography so much that I don’t >> want to show it right now cuz I want to keep some mystery going um cuz that’s you know it’s fun to have things to still discover.

>> But the photos are done by Mert and Marcus who are two of my favorite photographers. The last time I and the only time I worked with them [music] for an album cover shoot was with Reputation with that album and I loved what they did with those photos. So, I called them up for this one, and I’m so happy with the way that the photos came out for this one.

 And it just basically was like I was so proud of the music and so excited about this project from a creative standpoint that I was just like all hands on deck. We’re going all out. This is a full send. Like, I care about this record [music] more than I can even overstate. >> It’s so much fun. And it it I mean, I understand what she’s saying.

 Obviously, I’ve uh I’ve been fortunate enough to hear every single song on here, so I know they’re all 12 bangers. Um it’s a lot more upbeat and it’s a lot more like fun pop like excitement and I think that’s that’s a completely like >> I think it’s a complete 180 from a lot of the songs on Torture Poets for sure. >> Oh yeah.

>> And and it’s just >> life is more upbeat. >> Well, that’s what I was about to say. It probably Do you find that your albums mimic everything that’s happening in your personal life? >> Yeah. Like definitely >> your genres that you’ve done are like so wide spanning between like country pop uh and then like it can get I don’t even know torture poets.

 It was like so cathartic it felt like for you probably to write those songs and to release all that. >> Definitely. And it was like I have different goals with different albums. >> Um and toward your poets department my goals were strictly lyrical [music] like >> I and I I >> felt like every song was a poem. >> Oh I Yeah.

 And I love that album so much from that perspective. That was strictly what I was trying to accomplish. There was just really a full catharsis and [music] I loved to embrace the mess of of writing from that perspective of the rawness of that. This I have a totally different set of goals. >> Um I always try to do something completely different.

 That’s what I’m feeling at the moment. And I was feeling a complete pivot [music] um at this point in time. And I wanted the album to feel the way my life felt. And this completely matches the way that my life has felt. Uh, and I I also wanted it to be just every single song is on this album >> for hundreds of reasons. >> Yeah.

>> You know, and and and you couldn’t take one out and it be the same album. You couldn’t add one and it be it’s just right. [music] And that focus and that kind of discipline with creating an album and keeping the bar really high is something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time.

 I tend to love to write lots and lots of music. So, it’s a temptation to release lots of music. >> Sure. I wanted to do an album that was so focused on quality and on the theme and everything fitting together like a perfect puzzle >> that these 12 songs from my 12th album, it just I feel like we achieved that and I’m really happy about that.

>> So you you mentioned a couple things there. First, what is the theme of the album? If you would describe it as one like theme, if that’s possible, >> I would say it’s everything that was going on behind the curtain. >> Okay. [clears throat] And then what are the goals? You said something like there.

 What would be like your main goals with this album? >> My main goals were melodies that were so infectious >> that you’re almost angry at it. Um and [music] lyrics that are just as vivid >> but crisp and focused and and [music] completely uh intentional. >> Check. >> So it’s like I feel like we actually came together in a really beautiful way.

the three of us, Shellback, Max and I, where [music] we had a conversation about how Max was like, “I loved folklore. I loved the storytelling on folklore. I don’t want that to change.” Like, >> okay, >> just because we’re making these like these infectious anthems, like I don’t want you to leave that behind.

 And I was like, [clears throat] I don’t think I I couldn’t if I tried. >> So, at this point, I’m >> I got some stuff to say. >> I’m married to that [laughter] kind of writing, you know. And so it was really amazing that we were able to without doing too much overthinking, we were able to get in there >> and it was just ideas flying and all of these ideas were like we’ve been waiting years to come back together and make this project.

>> It felt really >> You were going to move. You are Do I have to wait till October 3rd? Do I have to wait till October 3rd? You do, Jason. God damn it. This is unfair. We don’t We don’t trust you at all. >> Yeah. I mean, honestly, smart smart. [laughter] I completely get it. Completely get it. The artwork, how do you settle on a a front piece of like artwork for an album? >> This represents the end of my night.

>> Okay. >> Right. So, like when I’m on tour, I have the same day every single day. It’s another reason why we have a very similar life. His show, his game days are the same days every day. My [music] his practice days are the same every day. His meetings, his schedule, my show days are the same every single day.

 I just happen to be in a different city >> and my day [music] ends with me in a bathtub. Not usually in a bedazzled dress. >> Sure. >> Well, it’s it’s got to be it’s it’s on the front of it decent, you know. >> Yeah. >> I wanted to sort of like glamorize all the different aspects of how that tour. >> Jason began in his familiar warm voice a little bit.

 Trav, I want to talk a little bit about last night. Not about the yards or the touches, but about her. Travis tilted his head up. Her those two words needed no explanation. Taylor Swift. Jason continued, his voice growing slower and wider. I saw you on the field after the game. You ran toward the locker room, but before that, you stopped. You looked up at the stands.

I knew who you were looking for. And when you saw her outstretched arm, you rode in a way only you could. That smile. I remember when you were little when we played soccer in the backyard. That childish smile of a mom praising you after a goal. Travis was soft, but his eyes were beginning to well up. He scratched the back of his neck, a habit he had when emotions ran high.

 Jason, don’t. But Jason didn’t stop. He knew his brother. He knew that after years of playing basketball, after Super Bowls, after painful defeats, Travis always tried to maintain a tough exterior. But inside, he was much softer, especially when talking about the people he loved. “I want to talk about Taylor’s support,” Jason said, his voice firmer.

Not the kind of support you see on social media. Pictures of her in a red shirt singing shake it off in the stands. It’s real support. The kind of support only those who are there understand. Travis bowed his head, his hands clasped together. He took a deep breath. Jason continued, “I remember earlier this year when you were struggling with minor injuries with the pressure [music] of proving yourself after a tough season.

Taylor didn’t just come to watch the game. She was there for you in practice [music] in those sleepless nights when you couldn’t sleep because you were thinking too much. She sang you new songs. Songs no one else had ever heard. And last night after you scored that crucial goal, I saw her get up, her hands warm and red.

 Not because of the cameras. Because of you, Travis swallowed. His voice trailed off. She She’s always there. Jason nodded. That’s right. And he wants to tell the whole art world this because sometimes people only seek the spotlight, the fame. They forget that behind it all is a woman who chose to be by a football player’s side.

Accepting the crazy schedule, accepting the criticism, accepting having to share her passion with millions. Taylor did it silently and with love. Travis covered his face with his hands. His shoulders trembled slightly. Tears began to roll down his cheeks. He tried to smile, but the laughter was choked in his throat. “Damn it, Jason.

 You made me cry.” Jason leaned forward, placing his hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Okay, go ahead and cry. I want to cry, too, because I see you happy. truly happy. Not happy because of the victory, but because you have someone by your side to share that victory with the studio. The atmosphere became quiet.

 The production team members silently looked through the glass, no one making a sound. The microphone was still recording. This solution would be broadcast to millions of listeners. But right now, it belonged only to the two brothers. Travis wiped away tears with the back of his hand, sweetly saying, “I remember 5 years after the Super Bowl. Everything was so hard.

 I felt like I had failed not just with the team, but with everyone.” And Taylor, she didn’t try to make me forget. She was just there giving me headphones and saying, [music] “Listen, honey. No talking, just hugs.” Jason nodded, his eyes also red. I know. I’ve seen you change since she came along. You smile more. You talk more about the future.

You don’t just think about football as everything anymore. Football is still my passion, but now I have another home, a home called Taylor. Travis smiled through his tears. I remember the night before the game against the Broncos. I came home after practice. She had prepared a meal. not fancy food, just the simple pasta I like.

 And she sat opposite me asking me about strategy, about how I would block the Broncos. She listened as if it were the most important thing in the world. And she said, “No matter the outcome, you’re still the person I feel most comfortable with. I I didn’t know how to turn around. I just kissed her for a long time.
