Star-studded night! Taylor Swift credits Travis Kelce’s positivity during moving VMA speech

 First of all, I want to say thank you to MTV for giving this platform to music videos so long ago. I got to start making music videos and being a part of music videos 20 years ago. And  And since then I’ve gotten to be a part of um making 60 music videos, roughly 60.  18 of those I I wrote and directed and I really love writing and directing music videos.

 I I got to tell you though the main reason why I love writing and directing music videos so much is because you, the fans, make it so much fun. You make it so rewarding. Because you actually care about what we’re making. So, you know, I want to say thank you to everyone who ever worked on a music video that I got to be a part of.

 I learned something from every single person that ever worked alongside me on these projects. Mainly, I want to say thank you to the fans and rather than say anything else, I would Oh!  [cheering] [cheering]  [cheering]    [cheering] [screaming]  First of all, I want to say thank you to MTV for giving this platform to music videos so long ago.

fans. I’m lucky I got to be one of them and I will always be one of them.  The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, VMAs, recently took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, USA. Taylor Swift won the Video of the Year award for The Fate of Ophelia, one of the most anticipated awards of the evening. She also received the Best Director award for Opalite, becoming the first artist to be awarded the Artist Director honor at the VMAs.

With this series of wins, Swift has increased her total number of Moon Person awards to 31, officially surpassing the previous record of 30 awards jointly held by her and Beyoncé to become the artist with the most awards in the history of the awards. Pop queen Madonna brilliantly won Artist of the Year and also triumphed in the Best Dance Video category with Confessions to the film and Best Collaboration with Bring Your Love, a song featuring Sabrina Carpenter.

Madonna was also the highlight of the awards ceremony’s opening, performing songs from her new album, Confessions II. Madonna’s return to the VMA stage was particularly noteworthy, as it marked her first performance at the event in 23 years. Upon accepting the Artist of the Year award, she recalled her performance of Like a Virgin at the first VMAs in 1984, a performance that garnered significant attention and became a milestone in her decades-long career.

Besides the two veteran names, the award ceremony also saw the rise of many other impressive figures. Lisa of Blackpink won the Best Pop Video award for Dream, a collaboration with Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi. She is the first Asian solo artist to win this award at the VMAs. In the group category, BTS impressively won Best Group and Song of the Year with Swim.

The title of Best New Artist went to Siena Sperro after a fan vote. In other music categories, singer Bruno Mars won Best R&B with I Just Might. The duo Cardi B and Kehlani took home Best Hip Hop with Safe, while rapper Bad Bunny was honored in the Best Latin category with NUEVO AMOR. Notably, Nirvana was awarded the Video Vanguard award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the art of music video, marking the first time in over 20 years that a band has received this honor.

In the months since their wedding, the couple has been keeping a low profile. Swift and Kelsey kicked off September with a date in New York City, and the singer later attended the tight end’s first two games of the season at Arrowhead Stadium. In a September interview with Vogue, Kelsey shed some light on their home life, revealing they share a dog, Wendy, who Tommy Hilfiger tapped to appear in its fall campaign with Kelsey.

The player spoke about pitching their Samoyed pooch to pose with him. The team was looking to cast a dog, and we figured, why not her? Kelsey said. She crushed it and actually really fit into that Tommy aesthetic, too. Those are some of my favorite shots. Kelsey also touched on his wife’s style in the interview.

He praised her saying, I love that Tay’s always authentically herself with every look. Whether we’re hanging with some friends or just us two on a fun night out for dinner, she’s always effortless, elegant, and beautiful. She’s not afraid of unique patterns or bold colors, and she’s just timeless and classy in everything she steps out in.

Lisa, a member of Blackpink, won the Best Pop Music Video Award for her solo song Dream, which features Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi. She was visibly moved and thanked her fans upon receiving the Moon Person Award. Taylor Swift won Video of the Year, one of the most important categories  at the VMAs, with The Fate of Ophelia.

The song is from her album The Life of a Showgirl, released in 2025. Swift also received the Artist Director honors, a new award given for the first time at the VMAs to recognize artists’ contributions to directing in visual storytelling. Nirvana was awarded the Video Vanguard Award in recognition of the band’s contributions to the field.

The three members, Dave Grohl,  Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear, took the stage to accept the award. Meanwhile, the band’s frontman, Kurt Cobain, passed away in 1994 at the young age of 27. According to Reuters, this year’s 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at the Peacock Theater, a theater with a capacity of approximately 7,100 people in downtown Los Angeles.

The event returns to the city after nearly a decade amidst a backdrop where the VMAs have been primarily held in New York and New Jersey in recent years.
