Teen Thought There Would Be No Charges — Until the Evidence Came Out
Teen Thought There Would Be No Charges — Until the Evidence Came Out
My name is Sarah and [music] I’m Kristen Brock’s daughter and James Brock’s stepdaughter. This isn’t easy but I don’t know how I’m going to manage to do this so I’ll try I’m going to get through this but just bear with me because I stutter a lot. I just wanted to say goodbye to Mommy [music] and James since we never got the chance to.
I was supposed to you guys always being here and to think that I never once thought of not being here. I didn’t have a single clue of how much I needed to talk to them. The defendant is charged with the brutal murders of my brother Danny and my sister-in-law while they were lying in their bed. Shot multiple times including both shot in the head.
And no matter what decision was made someone is going to feel as though justice was not served today. That’s just the truth. If I would have granted bond there would have been a large group that said justice was not done. If I deny bond as I’m doing today there’s going to be a large group that says justice was not done. That I can’t avoid.
But what I can do is give this young lady speedy justice. And that’s my purpose. Again my role is to make sure the law is followed and I do the best I can to facilitate that. The community waits and wonders. Is Sarah Grace [music] a grieving daughter or something far darker? So in the early morning hours of February 20th, 2025 a 6-year-old girl walked [music] into her parents’ bedroom expecting to find her mother awake.
What she found [music] instead was a nightmare. Her parents Kristen and James Brock [music] had been shot to death in their bed. Their bodies were cold, their home undisturbed, and the [music] killer seemingly vanished without a trace. As the hours ticked by, suspicion began to swirl, but it wouldn’t be burglars, drug dealers, or vengeful enemies the community would come to fear.
No, the horror was much closer to home. Just [music] days after the murders, Kristen’s 16-year-old daughter, Sara Grace Patrick, took to social media with raw emotion, crying on TikTok, [music] begging for justice, even reaching out to true crime creators to tell [music] her family story. She crafted the perfect picture of a grieving daughter until [music] investigators began to peel back the layers.
Now, Sara [music] is behind bars charged with the murders of her own mother and stepfather. All right, Mr. Nolan, how are you related to Sara Grace Patrick? She’s my granddaughter. And are you her maternal or paternal grandfather? Maternal. Maternal? And so, Kristen was your daughter? Kristen was my daughter. Okay.
Do you believe that Sara is a danger to you or anybody else in this community? Not at all. No. Okay. Do you believe that she is a threat to intimidate any witnesses that may be a part of this case? No, absolutely not. Have you ever witnessed her threaten anybody or do any harm to somebody that you know? No, not at all.
Okay. Do you have at this point custody of Jaylee? Yes, I do. Okay. And that is Sara’s little sister? Yes. Okay. Um are you afraid for the safety of Jaylee as it relates to Sara? Not at all. Okay. Is there any uh has Sara ever made any threats to you or to Jaylee um at any point in time, but especially in relation to this case? No.
Okay. Um and you are in support of Sarah. Yeah, I’m here for my friends on earth today. Great. Thank you. This story is still a bit of a mystery, regardless of the fact that someone’s been charged and prosecutors say they have a mountain of evidence which no one has seen yet. But why? Why would she do this? [music] Teenager in her senior year.
It It It doesn’t make a lot of sense. Murders usually don’t make a lot of sense, but this one um, very different. My daughter wouldn’t hurt a fly. She’d give you the shirt off her back. She loved them. She loved them with all her heart. Um, she’s very intelligent. She’s um, very beautiful. She’s hard working. You know, she just graduated.
We’re teaching her to drive a car. Um, we’re getting ready to get her driver’s license. She’s just your typical 17-year-old that does what 17-year-olds do. You know, she’s She’s like I said, she wouldn’t harm nobody. She’s never been in a fight in her life. She’s never put her hands on anybody. You know? She’s She’s a good girl all around.
At the center of this case is a brutal and heartbreaking truth. Two people were taken from this world in the most violent [music] way imaginable. And the ripple effects of that violence have shattered an entire family. When the possibility that they were awake when the defendant entered their room with a gun and I imagine her imagine their terror and their final breaths.
She would never do this. As a father this has been one of the most hurtful things in my life. I’m sorry. I This is hard. you know. One place that you look to try to understand what’s going on in their life and who they are and what they’re about is social media. [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] What is your reaction to the new charges that Sarah Grace Patrick’s now facing? I know she’s facing those two counts of malice murder.
Summarized from what people have told me is that their digital evidence is uh was searches that Sarah had done on her phone having to do with murdering your parents. Her account’s gone or it was posted? Okay. Yeah. And she will post them writing things like, “I’ll never forget her last speaking with me.
” She came into my room, she’s referring to her mom, when I was in bed watching a show and she told me good night in this deep voice and was acting silly. “I should have hugged her and when James talked to me last, he told me I love you and good night through the door. It tears me apart that I didn’t open that door and give him a hug.
I need my mom more than ever now and I know that I can’t get closure because nothing will bring them back. If you know something, please speak up and help me and my family heal. It hits me when I see my 5-year-old sister crying for her mommy and daddy. I’m sick of waiting for answers. I can’t wait for them to catch the [ __ ] who did this.
” So, her mother gets murdered, the case isn’t moving, there’s no arrest, there’s no answers. What does she do? She goes where the audience is. She reaches out to true crime creators to try and get some coverage and somehow that’s suspicious because she believes it will get views.
I I’m just not following that line of thinking. 20 years ago if the family felt like their case wasn’t getting attention, they call a local TV station. They’d go to the radio station. They might fax you, Vinnie. This is just their mode of communication today. I’m so confused on how someone could have done this.
If you know something, please speak up. Kristen and James Brock, they’re my parents and out of nowhere, a random Thursday night in February, someone came in my house with me and my 5-year-old sister, shot my parents brutally leaving them for me and my little sister to wake up to. Well, technically it was a Wednesday night cuz I found them on Thursday morning on February 20th, 2025.
Allegedly, reportedly responds to her telling her, “I am so sorry. I cannot imagine. I will absolutely research and cover their case. Please please take care of you always.” She makes a video on it and Sarah comments, “Thank you for spreading awareness.” Sarah’s very active in the comment section, which makes sense, but one person writes, “This is a random netizen.
From an investigative standpoint, it would seem that it was someone who knew them hoping for answers and swift justice.” I had not heard of this case until Sarah Grace messaged me on June 3rd asking me to cover the Brock case. She went on to explain it was the unsolved case of her parents’ murder, her mother Kristen and stepfather James, and it needed a light shined on it.
Um I told her I would certainly look into it. I didn’t have much of a reaction yet because I get requests like that all the time, so nothing suspicious. I just felt bad for her and I was very nice to her, which looking back on it is just very strange, but then I told her if she wanted any specific photos included, she could email those to me.
So, at that point, she emailed me photos and her version of what happened that night. Now, once I read that, there were a few things that I thought a little bit about, but then I said, “No, no, no. Have compassion. She just lost her parents. This is a child.” And her talking about, you know, “You’ll get a lot of views if you cover this story.” That was very strange.
I think it would be a really big hit cuz the only person who posted about it made it as the first image you see when you Google their names. Plus, I can give you intel. Just I can’t give you anything that could break the case. That’s what the cops told me. And in this particular case, we don’t see signs of forced entry.
We don’t see signs that anything was taken or missing. You know, so that kind of typical maybe there’s a third-party intruder that’s attempted a burglary or a robbery. Our victims are still in bed. So, that tells us that they weren’t confronting somebody in their home. They were killed when they were at their most vulnerable state, sleeping.
She told me she did not hear anything that night. According to one of these true crime influencers that Sarah Grace told them that that night when those multiple gunshots went off in the early hours in that February morning, that Sarah Grace said she heard nothing. is how the hell did the little 5-year-old girl hear the gunshots, but 16-year-old Sarah [music] slept through them all? She claims she didn’t hear a single gunshot go off in this little house.
Mhm. And and let me back up a little bit. Sarah did tell the investigators that when she went into the room initially, she said the room was ice cold and this was, of course, in February. It was cold. And she realized it was cold because the back door was open. There was a back door that they had attached to their bedroom.
Right off their bedroom was a little porch. And uh this door opened up into that porch. And Sarah told him that that door she found that door open. Right here. Right there. Do you see this mark right here? That’s a crowbar mark that um you know, there there’s clearly signs of forced entry. Uh as to the struggle part, we don’t really know that much, but they have stated that there were no signs of forced entry.
So, did these people sleep commonly with their door uh unlocked, their house unsecured, with their open windows, that sort of thing, where someone could have gained access to the interior of this home? I think that that’s that that is rather perplexing uh considering the day and age that we live in. People many times now are hyper-vigilant about these sorts of things.
Uh so, from that perspective, no, it I have questions, I think, as to the security of the home and who could have access to these very intimate spaces, and why weren’t the children harmed? Why were an infirm man and his middle-aged wife, why were they specifically targeted? So, those are big questions for me. Sarah likes the comment and response.
[music] Most definitely was, since they knew the house. Mhm. She’s saying, “Yeah, I mean, whoever did this to my mom and my stepdad, they knew them, because they knew the layout of the house, they knew where they were sleeping. So, yeah, I agree with you, [music] commenter. Like, they knew my parents.” Well, let’s talk about you know, prosecutors believe she did it.
So, there had to be a a reason or a motive. Do you think it’s plausible that, if in fact she is living a life connected [snorts] with drugs and promiscuity and mom and or stepdad know about it. One thing we know about the family is a tight connection to their church community. I Do you think that could be the the focal point of some conflict in in a home where you’ve got a teenage girl and parents? Absolutely, Vinnie.
I believe that there must be some evidence within the text messages between parents and and [music] her involving you cannot continue to have boys in the house or you cannot continue to vape or do drugs and that leads to the kind of controversy that potentially spilled over into murder. She was expelled from school because of that that drug incident.
And you see the thing is that James and Kristen were allowing her to smoke marijuana. I mean, they I caught them in my house doing it. James and Kristen and Sarah together. Um which I I I was very upset about. And but they they did that on a regular basis and I know they shared. You know, one thing Sarah kept asking the day after the murder, you know, well, did they find the marijuana? Did they find the marijuana? And I’m thinking, what? Why? Why is she so interested in this this thing? She says, well, there was a
a lot of marijuana laying on the table or something. And she felt like whoever committed the crime had grabbed that batch of marijuana that was there. [music] And uh later on I think it was Sarah that told me that they found it behind the nightstand or something and it ended up in in in their bedroom. Well, she was arrested and charged with murder, [music] you know, so I don’t think that it’s jumping the gun once an arrest is made because the police clearly felt [music] and still feel that they discovered enough evidence during their
investigation to put out a warrant for this teenager’s arrest. In fact, they described it as mountains of evidence that they have. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the truth is much darker than any of us can even imagine. Today, we can confirm that an arrest has been made in the case.
Kristin Brock’s 17-year-old daughter, Sarah Grace Patrick, has been taken into custody and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the death of her mother and her stepfather. At a press conference, prosecutors said they had mountains of digital and physical evidence against her.
But as of yet, they have not released even a speed bumps worth of evidence, much less mountains. We are still working with her diligently. Our investigators have been speaking with her. It is correct that she was the one who made the 911 call, correct? Yes. At what point did investigators begin to focus on her as the [music] suspect? So, I believe in the beginning of any case, everyone’s a suspect.
I think I told many of you that when we were on scene that day. However, as an investigation continues and everything ebbs and flows, like said like I said in my press release, mountains of evidence has gotten us through here today. Lots of processing, lots of working with our law enforcement partners to get us to where we [music] are today that honed in on her as the suspect.
If they say they have a mountain of evidence, that folder was pretty thin. That’s all I will say. It’s we have a mountain of evidence, but we’re not going to tell you what any of that is. We’re just going to be kind of skirting around here and maybe this, maybe that, but we’re not going to say anything. And we’ll find out.
I’m I’m I’m I’m I’m guessing they have a case. I would hope they have a case. We’ve seen otherwise though in other trials. But that’s the thing. We just don’t know right now what exactly they have in their cards. I mean, let’s face it. It took them 4 months to to arrest her. You know, the the time lag.
If they had anything of substance that uh came about from the initial investigation, they would have arrested her immediately. And that leads me to the question, why is there so little information about the case and about the facts of the crime? It’s really surprising we don’t have more details by now. Well, I mean, I’d like to see evidence that you know, sort of as I’ve always used the expression, put the gun in her hand.
Um I just I just don’t think there is that evidence. I don’t think there’s enough evidence. Everything I see is circumstantial. I think that that a a decent attorney could could work their way through this in trial. And uh you know, have You know, when you have a jury of 12 people, um all you got to do is reach one of them.
And uh I think there’s so much questionable things that I I don’t see anything that’s that can’t be disputed. [music] Even before the murders, is there anything that was a red flag to you that in talking to your to your uncle about about Sarah Grace that that sticks out now? Uh what sticks out now? Yeah, um he said repeatedly that she’s not the Sarah that you guys know.
You don’t see the real Sarah. And so now looking back, that haunts us, you know, should we have asked more questions? But we would always tell him, you know, she’s you’ve never raised a teenage girl, you know, this is normal teenage behavior, you know, if she’s acting out or you know, she was sneaking out of the house to meet boys and stuff.
And it didn’t really seem like a red flag at the time. You I know she had lived with you since the deaths of the Brocks. Were there any red flags for you over that period of time? Like for people who have just kind of heard this and and you know, you have [music] this the sheriff’s office saying that she’s responsible for this and then she’s living with you for this period of time.
Was there anything that stood out to you that at any point you were thinking or or maybe even suspecting your daughter of of being accused of this? Not at all. Not one bit. Everybody wants to know motive, right? We don’t have to have motive in a court case, but human beings want to understand. So, I think they’re going to be definitely looking at the relationship that she had especially given that this was a step parent and a biological parent.
You know, looking at that relationship, was there anything [music] out of the norm? They’re going to be looking at her. We don’t know if we don’t know her mental health. We don’t know a history of substance abuse. We don’t know all of these things that could come into play. Um so, they’re going to be looking at at that certainly.
And again, social media, I think messaging and text messaging to determine if this was being planned, if it was premeditated, if there was somebody else that was talking her into this. All of those things are going to come into play as well as whatever physical evidence, right? So, I don’t know the physical evidence that they have at this time.
But just looking at the picture, when we see victims that are in bed, we know that they are at their most vulnerable state. So, that’s not somebody that was we’ve ruled out self-defense. There is no self-defense because they’re in bed. We’ve ruled out third party coming in burglarizing the house, something that has alerted them, they’ve awakened, there’s no fighting. They’re in bed.
So, all of those things kind of are clues that piece together who could have potentially done this and then we’re going to start looking at what links together that crime scene with that offender.
